Ian Patrick Moran (born August 24, 1972 in Cleveland, Ohio) is a professional ice hockey defenceman, who currently is a free agent.
Moran grew up in Acton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. He attended the Belmont Hill School.
He was drafted 107th overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft and made his debut for the Penguins during their playoff run in the 1993-94 NHL season. He stayed as a Penguin until 2003 where he was traded to the Boston Bruins. During the NHL lockout, Moran had spells in the Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan for Bofors IK and the United Kingdom's Elite Ice Hockey League for the Nottingham Panthers.
His return to Boston after the lockout was short-lived having been sidelined for most of the season with a knee injury. In 2006, he signed with the Anaheim Ducks but only managed to play one game for them as he also spent the season with spells in the American Hockey League with the Portland Pirates and in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany for Eisbären Berlin. Moran signed with the New Jersey Devils in 2007, but never played for the team, he played for the Lowell Devils until another knee injury ended his season prematurely. This injury ended his career.
